JAMIE CULLUM LAUNCHES “ONE MAN BRITISH INVASION” OF AMERICA
GOLDEN GLOBE & GRAMMY NOMINEE ANNOUNCES MARCH TOUR DATES AND RELEASE OF NEW ALBUM THE PURSUIT ON MARCH 2, 2010
English singer/songwriter/pianist/multi-instrumentalist Jamie Cullum, who has been dubbed “a one man British invasion” (Hollywood Reporter), has announced a series of US tour dates to coincide with the U.S. release of The Pursuit on March 2, 2010. The album is Cullum’s third for Verve Records and his first in four years. It follows last year’s Golden Globe nomination for Cullum and Clint Eastwood of “Gran Torino” as Best Original Song. Cullum's prior album releases Twentysomething and Catching Tales were international crossover smashes selling more than 4 million combined copies worldwide. Already released to great critical and commercial success in Europe and the U.K., The Pursuit has garnered Top 10 digital debuts on the iTunes Top Album Chart in the U.K., Germany, France, Spain and ten other countries. The album is currently #14 on the Billboard European Top 100 Album Chart.
Like the exploding piano on its cover, the long-awaited new album The Pursuit blows away audience preconceptions with 14 smoldering tracks that seamlessly run the gamut from swinging standards and yearning singer-songwriter confessionals to 125 BPM house dance tracks and resurrected Broadway ballads. The album features nine Cullum originals and five cover songs that showcase Cullum’s unique voice and iconoclastic interpretive skills. The self-penned gems include the buoyant first single "I'm All Over It," the cheerfully apocalyptic "Wheels," the animated swing of "You and Me Are Gone," Cullum’s love song to music "Mixtape" and his love song to love "Love Ain't Gonna Let You Down.” Elsewhere on the album, Cullum reinvents 1930s jazz standards (Cole Porter’s “Just One Of Those Things” and “Love For Sale”), brings the dance floor into the bedroom (Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop The Music”) and cleans the pancake off the Great White Way (Leslie Bricusse's "If I Ruled the World" and Stephen Sondheim's "Not While I'm Around").
Since the release of Cullum’s last album, he has seen an ever-growing courtship with Hollywood blossom: beginning with 2007’s animated Disney feature Meet The Robinsons in which Jamie was the singing voice of Frankie The Frog, continuing with his vocal on the Golden Globe-nominated “Best Original Song” from the John Cusack film Grace Is Gone, and culminating in his co-writing and performing with Clint Eastwood the Golden Globe-nominated “Best Original Song” from 2008’s Gran Torino. Cullum was also recently featured in the Clint Eastwood executive-produced documentary Johnny Mercer: The Dream’s On Me celebrating the 100th anniversary of the great American songwriter’s birth. |

their website isn't coping very well with the traffic in the rush to get tickets.
It's been alternating between server errors and "sold out" for the last half hour. By some miracle, somewhere inbetween those messages (and the reeeeeally long page load times), I managed to bag myself a ticket. Yay!
Frustrating experience, but relieved now. |

I wasn't so lucky on my own. I just got the "can't connect to server" bit repeatedly.
But I am SOOOO grateful to Olivier, who DID get through, and is letting me have his second ticket!!!!!!!
It's a FANTASTIC venue, VERY small, holds only around 160. No surprise their server crashed. _________________ Home at last! |

| Well, it'll definitely be better atmosphere for a Jamie gig than Carnegie Hall! |

THAT'S a "gimme"! Almost anything would be better than Carnegie Hall - OR Town Hall - but my first-row seats at Town Hall should help alleviate the wretchedness of that venue to a large degree, plus the stage is low to the ground, so about as good as you can get for Town Hall.
But yes, Joe's Pub is a dream venue. I'm still pinching myself that the story ended well for me after all! Olivier is my hero!!! _________________ Home at last! |

Well, I enjoyed Carnegie Hall, but wasn't especially looking forward to the Town Hall, because I hadn't been able to get very good seats - the presale didn't work for me (no decent seats by the time I looked) and it was a bit of a scramble in the general sale, so I ended up with a bunch right over at the side and a bit of a way back. I was so miffed at the tickets in fact, that I went back to see what Ticketmaster would offer if I only wanted 1... and ended up buying that one too, since it was in the middle at the front of the balcony (but would mean not actually sitting with my friends!)
Oh, and I've seen some other things at the Town Hall and not had a particularly good view. Actually no, the time I sat in the balcony it was ok, but the time I sat in the middle downstairs I could barely see a thing because there was a tall man in front of me and the angle of the stage and the seating (i.e. no angle at all!) meant his head was precisely right in the way!
So yes, I'm looking forward to this. I haven't been to Joe's pub before but the size of it surely means there are no bad seats. It was tense booking though! I first tried to get several tickets but it wouldn't let me, then (a number of error messages later) I managed to get one, but I was practically holding my breath as by the time the page had loaded to say it was in my "cart" it also warned me I only had 2 minutes left to complete my order! I also managed to get back in a little later and get another one (after several more unsuccessful attempts), so will be able to bring a friend after all. |

^^^You're lucky, FB! I JUST COULD NOT GET THROUGH. I tried for some time, then phoned the club just to see what was going on:
"Hi, your server seems to be down..."
(Cuts me off rudely) "That's because 1500 people logged on at noon to get Jamie Cullum tickets and now they're ALL SOLD OUT!!!"
Me: "You're sure? Nothing left?"
Him: "YES!!!!!" Click! He hung up. Sounded very uptight.
Maybe he was the fellow who had to try to fix the server afterwards.
But as I said, it ended well for me thanks to Olivier, amazingly!
You're quite right, there are no bad seats in the house: but not many actual seats either. Unless you booked a table, you might have to stand. I called back after I knew Olivier had got the tickets and asked if we could reserve a table, and I was told there were no more to be had.
No matter. The place is the size of a postage stamp, so no bad place to sit OR stand, and heaven knows, won't be the first time I've stood for Jamie! I just hope the club didn't overbook TOO much...
Who am I kidding! I don't care if it's packed like the Lexington Avenue IRT at rush hour!!!*
See you there, FB!

Yeah, I tried phoning too but they weren't answering - they just stuck me on hold and counted down my "wait time" but then eventually just gave up and played a message saying their systems were down and I should call back later.
I got the impression from the website that seating was first come first served on the night - apart from people wanting to eat. Hmm. That's annoying, since they wouldn't answer the phone and you weren't given a "do you want a table" option when booking. Ah well. |

Could be! I guess the seating thing is sort of up in the air. I'll get there asap after work.
I honestly think the club was not anticipating such a huge response, and was somewhat overwhelmed!
Oh, I am SO excited - can't wait to meet Olivier - I need to give that man a big hug!!! _________________ Home at last! |

Theres nothing better than a small venue and nothing worse than trying to secure tickets for them !
So pleased that you managed to get sorted.
Nice one Olivier !
Had i not been returning to New Orleans this year, then i would have gone back to New York in a flash....Lotto win needed methinks !
MMK - Thanks for the verbal notes from your conversation.. .i think the guy will be laying in a dark room for a few days mumbling to himself....reboot reboot ! _________________ .

HILARIOUS that the club has issued that statement! "Bruce Springsteen"!!!
I do think that at noon the club didn't know what hit them. I guess they feel they had to release a comment like that - maybe they're afraid of a mob of disappointed Jamie fans descending on them like some kind of avenging army!
Kind of makes the statement in Jamie's original notice to "book early to avoid disappoinent" the understatement of the year!
If what that guy told me was true (poor fella, wonder if he's stopped biting his nails and quaking yet) and there really WERE 1500 people trying to get tickets, that's a ratio of about 10 to one hopeful fans to tickets available! _________________ Home at last! |

That's great that two people from the forum got in! ....mind you, I wouldn't expect anything less of Olivier .... he can get ticket Transatlantic when NYC residents can't
Thrilled that you'll get to meet - MMK and Olivier!! ......and I know we are assured of photos and videos of the night _________________ Talking about music is like dancing about architecture - Elvis Costello |

Why, thank you, Kirjava; yes, as I recall, the Pub is not at all uptight about photography, so hopefully I can shoot away to my heart's content!
And at least three forumites will be there: don't forget FB also got a ticket! So it will be a cool little mini-reunion. _________________ Home at last! |

I get the feeling the club was just so innundated, their plan was, Let's just get these tickets sold and then we'll sort out the stuff about tables and seating and whatnot later!
I really do think that's it, because now that I think back, the last time I was there, to see a fabulous act of nowhere near Jamie's fame (Happy Apple, terrific, check them out), it was a lot more relaxed and certainly not frenetic like this sale was, and I had the option then of choosing to book a table for dinner or not. I guess on some level they DID know this would be pandemonium! _________________ Home at last! |

I've been there several times (including Raul Midon with Lawrence ), they don't mind about people taking photos or videos, they just want you to eat and drink...
Last September, I was there for 2 shows on the same night: first French band Cocoon, then Canadian entertainer Gonzales. |

How delightful it will be to NOT be hassled for photography for a change! It's worth it to eat and drink in exchange for them not being annoying about that.
I am anticipating this gig with GREAT relish! Sigh...!!! _________________ Home at last! |
